One Piece has been around since forever – with 1,000+ anime episodes and 1,000 manga chapters. The Live Action Movie aired just this 2023 on Netflix. If you’re a purist, you’ll definitely have a lot of bones to pick with the movie version, but we can’t deny the fact that One Piece has had a Renaissance because of it. And more fans is still good for Eiichiro Oda at the end of the day right? So allow me to show you a cosplay guide to the live action movie, which managed to mimic the costumes of the Anime/Manga pretty well too.
Dress up as Monkey D. Luffy
The main protagonist of One Piece sports 2 distinct red tops – the red sleeveless vest and the red long sleeved button down piece (which is kept unbuttoned to reveal the scar on his chest). Of course, we mustn’t forget his Straw Hat!
Straw Hat
Of course – let’s start with Luffy’s quintessential Straw Hat, which was the treasured hat of “Red-Haired” Shanks. |
|
Red Sleeveless Button Down Vest
Get a rugged looking sleeveless red vest and unbutton a couple of the top buttons |
|
Red Button Down Pirate Shirt
The other option is to wear this red button down medieval pirate shirt and keep it unbuttoned to reveal the scar |
|
Fake Scar Kit
If you want that extra pop of detail, practice your makeup skills and create a fake scar |
|
Denim Cutoff / Capri Pants
Wear a pair of denim shorts with a length that comes down to just above the knee. fold up the ends to get that extra detail going on |
|
Yellow Sash / Belt
Wear a pirarte sash over the pants – either a bright yellow one or something more subdued like this almond shade |
|
Strap Sandals
Perhaps the only significant difference in the getup of Luffy in the anime vs the movie is the footwear. In the anime, he sports a pair of strap straw sandals. In the movie, he wears a pair of shoes – really for practicality and safety purposes more than anything. The one I’m featuring here is a pair of straw strap sandals since you won’t be doing any stunts during the cosplay gig anyway |
Dress up as Roronoa Zoro
Everyone can hate on and nitpick the live-action One Piece Netflix flick all you want, but I’m sure all of us agree that Roronoa Zoro kept all of us pretty quiet and happy heheh
Green Wig
So the first thing you need is green hair. If you are willing to commit and dye your hair green that would look even better! |
|
Three Gold Bar Earrings
I love these! And conveniently, they are just clip-on. Wear three on your left ear |
|
Sword Holster
Get yourself a sword holster. Ideally you will need more than one since Zoro carries three swords |
|
V-Neck Top Men
A close replica of the movie version was hard to find as there aren’t a lot of wrap shirts available for men. You can opt for a v-neck top like this one to improvise. |
|
Dress up as Nami
It’s easy dressing up as the navigator of the Straw Hat pirates and the apple of almost everyone’s eye!
Orange Pleated Skirt
The most distinct part of Nami’s skirt is the pleated detail. The anime version is just a plain mini skirt |
